Terms of Service

The service

Pollis provides end-to-end encrypted messaging. It is offered free of charge, as is and as available. Expect rough edges; the delivery of messages to every current member device is the part treated as non-negotiable, and the limits of message history are documented rather than hidden — see the privacy policy and security page for what is and isn't guaranteed.

Because content is end-to-end encrypted, the operator cannot read your messages and therefore cannot moderate their content. What you say to the people you talk to is between you and them.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Pollis to:

• break the law, or push others to;
• harass, threaten, or defraud people, or send spam;
• distribute malware, or probe, overload, or attack the service's infrastructure;
• attempt to access other users' accounts or data;
• impersonate the operator or misrepresent your affiliation with Pollis.

The apps have block and report tools; use them. Enforcement necessarily works at the account and metadata level, since content is unreadable by design.

Your content and your account

Your messages are yours. Pollis claims no rights over your content and — encrypted end-to-end — could not exercise any. You are responsible for what you send and for keeping your devices and sign-in email secure. You can delete your account at any time; deletion is real and described in the privacy policy, including its two honest limits.

The Pollis source code is licensed separately under the PolyForm Noncommercial License; these terms cover the hosted service, not the code.

Termination and shutdown

The operator may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or that harm the service or its users. You may stop using the service at any time. Because this is a proof of concept run by one person, the service itself may change or shut down; reasonable notice will be given on this site if that happens, but continuity is not promised.

No warranty, limited liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided without warranty of any kind — express or implied — including fitness for a particular purpose, availability, and non-loss of data. To the same extent, the operator's total liability arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you paid for it, which is zero. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Changes and contact
